Quality Check

For every Critical and High finding, confirm the vulnerability is exploitable in your specific configuration before prioritising it. Some findings may be theoretical in your deployment context.

Limits / Watchouts

This audit covers static code analysis only — it cannot detect timing attacks, race conditions, or logic flaws that only appear at runtime with specific data inputs. Do not treat this as a substitute for penetration testing on systems handling financial, health, or regulated personal data. Never paste production secrets, connection strings, or private keys into the prompt.

The Problem

Security audits are expensive, infrequent, and happen after deployment when fixing issues costs 15x more. Most solo builders skip them entirely. By the time a vulnerability is found in production the damage is done.

Workflow Steps

Open your terminal, cd into your project root, run: claude

Paste the security audit prompt below

Claude reads your entire codebase and returns a prioritised list of vulnerabilities — Critical, High, Medium, Low — with file paths and line numbers

For each Critical or High finding, ask Claude: show me the fix for this specific vulnerability
5
Review suggested fixes — understand why each change matters before applying
6
Run your full test suite after applying fixes to confirm nothing breaks
7
Save the audit report as a markdown file in your repo for future reference

Prompt Example

You are a security engineer. Audit this entire codebase for security vulnerabilities. For each finding: 1) Severity: Critical / High / Medium / Low, 2) File path and line number, 3) What the vulnerability is in plain English, 4) How it could be exploited, 5) The exact code fix. Categories to check: SQL injection, XSS, exposed secrets or API keys, insecure authentication or session handling, unvalidated user input, exposed internal APIs, missing rate limiting, overly permissive CORS. Show Critical and High first. List Minor issues at the end.
