Cursor Launches Origin, a GitHub Rival, After SpaceX Acquisition

Cursor has launched Origin, a new code-hosting and collaboration platform designed to compete directly with GitHub. The release comes shortly after SpaceX completed its acquisition of Cursor and on a day when GitHub itself experienced a significant global outage. Origin supports repositories, pull requests, code browsing, and collaboration features that developers currently rely on GitHub for. By building its own hosting layer, Cursor (and by extension SpaceX/xAI) gains tighter integration between its AI coding agents and the underlying source-of-truth for code. The launch is a clear signal that the battle for the AI-native developer stack is expanding beyond the editor and into version control and collaboration infrastructure.
